Identify Who You’re Talking To
This is the first thing you need to do before launching an online marketing campaign. Your product may be the best but that wouldn’t help sales without knowing who you’re talking to. Identifying your target market will be the basis of the strategies you develop in order to connect with them and sell your product. Here are some sample questions to give you an idea on how to get to know your target market.
For example, if you’re selling a product for kids, ask these questions: What age group do they belong? Do these kids need special care? Do they come from single or double income households? Do they study in a private or public school or are they home schooled? Where do they live?
You can add other questions but these are things you need to ask and get some answers so you can have a better picture of your target market. You won’t know who you’re talking to until you identify them. The better you identify your target market the better your chances are that you can fulfill their needs. If you find out that your target market has money to spend then you can increase the price of your product and focus on quality. Then again if you find out that your target market leads a busy lifestyle then the key to selling to them is convenience.
Make the Connection
After identifying your target market, the next step is connecting with them. And how is this done? The straightforward answer is to follow them around. If you’re selling to parents then check out websites frequented by parents. You can visit online forums and make postings by introducing yourself as an expert in the field. In time, visitors of the forum will come to you for advice.
Blogging is another great way to connect with your target market. You can also visit blogs within your target market and make some comments if need be. And if you do, don’t forget to plug in your website in every forum posting or blog comments that you make.
If your target market are parents, then create a website that are made for parents and populate it with information that they will be looking for. Do take the opportunity to build a database by asking for a name and email and then offer something free. Not only will you get to connect with parents regularly, you can start an email marketing campaign too. In short, it’s important to closely identify your target market and then make the connection. By doing this you will make more sales with less effort.
