The position of education in the United States is in poor condition. The teaching occupation is demanding a smaller amount employees that what the academic world is producing. Courses such as music and art, however, are becoming a thing of the past. Elective courses are becoming harder to get because a fewer number are being offered. And, teachers are being forced to teach more to the middle. Thus, Advanced Placement and Honors courses are being put on the chopping block. Because they are not seen as crucial, they can be taken out of the course offerings and be interchanged with a middle of the road course that can contain more students instead. There are options. High school contains so much more than just learning to read or calculate figures.
