3 Questions to Find Out If Your Child Suffers From Asperger’s Syndrome
If there’s anything that’s true of children with Asperger’s Syndrome, no two cases are ever the same.
So, it goes without saying that this makes an accurate diagnosis very difficult while misdiagnosis occurs more often than not.
Since conducting a diagnosis is a doctor’s job, there are certain guidelines (based on questions!) that parents can use to find out whether or not a child might have Asperger’s Syndrome.
With that said, here are 3 questions that parents should ask themselves:
#1: What kind of conversations does my child have with others?
Usually a sign of a child having Asperger’s is how they communicate with other kids. The conversation is normally one-sided if they’re interested in the topic or ends abruptly especially if the topic of conversation shifts to another one. They’re not individuals that enjoy or understand how to use small talk in conversation either.
#2: Is my child academically gifted?
Children with Asperger’s are usually interested in one area and will become talkative. While parents might assume that their child is gifted, the truth is that this is also a clear sign of the condition too. Of course, these children have very high IQs in subject like science and math too.
#3: Does my child maintain eye contact when talking?
This sign is considered to be one of the first signs of Asperger’s as most babies will maintain eye contact right from the time they’re born. Unfortunately, this isn’t the same with those children affected with Asperger’s Syndrome who have learn every subtle gesture whether it’s a nod or a smile.
